Beware Zombies Lurking In Your Workforce!

Actively disengaged employees can infect your entire organization! Take action before it’s too late.

It’s a complete nightmare! Halloween is upon us, and parts of our workforce are transforming into flesh-eating zombies before our very eyes!

What is a zombie at work? According to Gallup, a workplace zombie is: “actively disengaged: Employees aren’t just unhappy at work, they are resentful that their needs aren’t being met and are acting out their unhappiness. Every day, these workers potentially undermine what their engaged coworkers accomplish.”

It might seem like it’s too late, but there is hope. We’ve all seen how horrifying it can be to watch a former employee completely switch off, disengage, and become a zombie who wants nothing more than to infect your other employees. How do we keep the workforce safe from these individuals?

The sad truth is that once someone makes the transition to zombie it’s next to impossible to get back on track without a complete change of circumstance. There may not be any definable cure once you’ve gone zombie, and it’s just easier to protect and defend against that eventuality.  No matter how scary your situation seems it’s never too late to improve.

We don’t have much time, so let’s brainstorm some ways to make it out of here alive.

1. Listen up!

Great ideas can come from anyone in your group! Being a leader doesn’t mean we don’t need to pay attention to the voices that surround us. They see things you don’t see and can help you strategize solutions to break out of your rut. Giving everyone a voice will engage our whole group, and we will start finding smart solutions right away.

2. Survival comes from the team

It doesn’t matter what our lives were like before we joined this group, this is for the time-being our new reality. We need to make this opportunity count and learn some new skills to keep us and those around us alive. Let’s ask the right questions, and hold some authentic conversations that will help us gather the answers we need to survive.

3. Don’t Stop Moving

It might seem ok to assume we’re in a safe place and to stop looking for ways to improve our situation, but the truth is that danger will always lurk around us. Change is constant, and even in the non-zombie world, we have a disruption in our industries every three years at the least. We need to keep up what we know works and ditch the things holding us back.

Phew! Those three simple steps seem to have helped us fight off a full-fledged zombie apocalypse. Keep up these tactics and the world will seem brighter and more productive going forward.
